Each group course includes two fifteen-week semesters (August 26-December 16 and January 13-April 28). Students take a four-week vacation for Christmas and both semesters give a one-week break for Thanksgiving or Spring Break.

Weekly assignments are sent via e-mail on Wednesday mornings. Students complete their homework during the week and submit it (via e-mail or online forums) by Tuesday night. Students may contact the instructor throughout the week, and communicate with their peers in the online forums provided to the class for academic discussion and informal "extracurricular" conversations.

All composition courses operate in asynchronous time. Students need not be online at any given time, and complete assignments at their own pace during the week.

Literature courses operate largely in asynchronous time. In addition, students are required to meet with fellow students and the instructor at scheduled times throughout the week. At those times, we will use AIM Chat to conduct live discussions. Students are given multiple options for chat times each week, so everyone is able to benefit regardless of other commitments (or even time zone!).
